Custom roofs composed of materials such as slate, copper, cedar or clay tiles, already work to elevate a roofline. Custom roofing accessories take this even a step further! Many custom residential homes and custom commercial roofs have custom-made finials, gutter systems, weather vanes or even ridges to roofs installed on top of roofs to add a little more style and elegance to them. Below are some examples of custom roofing accessories we have installed through the years.

Gutters:

Gutters elevate home living by diverting water away from pouring directly off a roof onto surrounding landscaping. While most traditional gutters are made to blend in with the roofline or siding, some opt to have this be a place for added detail. An example of this are these custom-made gutters with fish gutter spouts we designed for an outdoor gazabo:

Another example is this custom-designed gutter we made to conform exactly with the cedar shingle, Hobbit-style roofline:

Finials:

While serving no other purpose but decoration, finials add an extra level of architectural interest and height to a roofline. Composed of malleable metal, most commonly copper, finials can be shaped into numerous designs and used with different architectural styles.

Ridges:

While typically reserved only for larger homes, a decorative ridge add immense detail and character to a roofline. Vanderbilt used multiple ridge caps on his Biltmore Estate, one of which we restored in 2015:

Well not all ridges are composed with this much detail, replacing this particular ridge took about 6 months to complete and used 988 custom stamped, molded or soldered pieces!

Weathervanes:

Another classic roofing accessory are weathervanes. Weathervanes are most often seen on farmhouse-style or southern-estates, and are a fun way to add in a little extra detail. Here is an example of a weathervane on a large estate in Georgia:
