Our Synthetic Thatch Roofing Services

Each project starts with an in-depth consultation and assessment of the existing structure. This allows us to confirm important details such as roof pitch requirements, drainage considerations, and any architectural or preservation guidelines that may affect the installation. Once the scope is agreed upon, we take care of all aspects of the project, from material sourcing to fabrication and installation.

Types of Synthetic Thatch Roofing We Install

  • Synthetic Reed Thatch

A synthetic reed thatch roof replicates the dense, brushed texture of European water reed, the traditional material used on English cottages and other historic estates and landmarks. It is a strong fit for heritage restorations and historically inspired residential projects where the original character needs to be preserved.

  • Synthetic Palm Thatch Roofing

Modeled after palm-thatching traditions in the Caribbean, Pacific Islands, and coastal Mexico, synthetic palm thatch reproduces the broad, layered look of natural palm without the upkeep. It is the material of choice for resort pools, tiki-style structures, beach clubs, and tropical residential properties.

  • Mexican Palm Thatch / Palapa-Style

The palapa is one of the most recognizable roof styles in the world, rooted in the coastal architecture of Mexico and Central America. Huber installs durable synthetic palapa-style roofs for resort developers, private estates, and commercial properties that want an authentic Mexican palm thatch aesthetic.

  • Faux Thatch Roof Panels

Prefabricated faux thatch roof panels are a strong option for projects where a full traditional installation is neither practical nor necessary. Bars, restaurants, pool cabanas, and event spaces use panel systems because they deliver the visual character of thatch without the complexity of a custom build.

  • Custom Synthetic Thatch Designs

For bespoke residences and historically significant properties, Huber develops fully custom synthetic thatch roof designs. Our team has completed installations drawing from African reed thatch, Japanese thatched farmhouse architecture, and original contemporary designs developed in collaboration with the project architect.

Why Choose Synthetic Thatch Over Natural Thatch?

Natural thatch is one of the world’s oldest roofing methods and is still used in many parts of the world. However, natural thatch has several disadvantages that make it impractical for most properties, especially in coastal, tropical, and fire-prone environments. These include:

  • A short lifespan of 15 to 20 years

  • High maintenance needs, including frequent inspections and rethatching

  • Susceptibility to mold, rot, and pests

  • Higher insurance costs, due to natural thatch being susceptible to fire

Endureed® synthetic thatch does not have those drawbacks. It carries a Class A Fire Rating, offers a long service life, and resists mold, rot, UV fading, pests, and high winds while closely matching the look of the natural material it replaces.

Our team can source natural thatch for our clients if that is what they require. However, we recommend synthetic or artificial thatch roofs for most projects. It is the superior choice for applications that require long-term performance and predictable upkeep costs, such as commercial properties, resort developments, and historic restorations.
